《摩斯探长第五季》剧情介绍：Deputy Assistant Commissioner Charlie Hillian met his demise during the eve of his retirement celebration. Hillian, once a senior officer in Oxford, had once been Morse's superior. Additionally, he was penning a book chronicling his most memorable cases, one of which delved into the unresolved murder of an 8-year-old girl that transpired 18 years prior. The prime suspect in that case, Frederick Redpath, was present at Hillian's residence on the day he passed away, and the corresponding section of the manuscript has vanished. Nonetheless, there are other potential culprits, including Hillian's ghostwriter, who will now inherit all of the book's earnings; a handyman engaged in property maintenance; and Redpath's daughter, who was acquainted with the deceased child from years ago. Morse finds himself at odds with his colleague DCI Dawson, a protégé of Hillian's, as they delve anew into the little girl's tragic demise.
